The sailor of the Violeta del Reino Sailing Club, world champion of the Hansa 303 women’s class, adds a new distinction to her extensive sports success curriculum after being recognized as the best sailor of the year by the Terras Gauda National Sailing Awards.

The jury that awards the prestigious awards wanted to reward her for the four podiums achieved in 2018, the year in which the gold medal of the Spanish Championship, the Spanish Cup, the European Championship held in Kiel (Germany) and the World Championship bronze played in Sheboygan (USA).

With Venezuelan origins, parents from Madrid and living in Mallorca for years, Violeta suffered from a young foot disease of idiopathic origin that later resulted in scoliosis problems in the back. With 14 years he had to undergo a triple arthrodesis, but his functional diversity never prevented him from marking numerous sporting challenges, which he was facing since he began sailing with 20 years.

His beginnings in sailing lived in the Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx, which he still sails today; and his good work led him to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, in which he achieved an Olympic diploma competing in Skud18 along with Sergi Roig.

In 2017 he won his first world championship in the Hansa 303 class, which also added a gold in the Spanish Cup and a silver in the European. In this 2019 he has won the World Cup held in Cádiz, the Spanish Cup and the Spanish Championship. He also achieved third place in the European held in Austria.

The finishing touch to a spectacular season will be on September 7 at eight in the afternoon at Baiona when he collects the Terras Gauda National Sailing Prize for the best sailor.
