The Board of Directors of the Port d’Andratx Sailing Club (CVPA) paid a heartfelt farewell tribute to who has been manager and captain of the port for 34 years, Juan Oliver, who has left the position due to retirement.
The president of the Club, Ginés Martínez Pina, praised his figure, highlighting his “admiration for those people who do a job well done in this society. If we all did things well we would be much better off. Juan Oliver, as you all know, has done a job that cannot be described as anything other than excellent.
Paraphrasing JF Kennedy, Ginés gave the example of Oliver as the subject of the famous phrase “Ask not what the Club can do for you, but what you can do for the Club.”
The outgoing manager, widely loved and recognized in the sector, has played a prominent role in defending the Club as manager of the marina in the concession dispute that the Andritxola institution is supporting due to political-administrative errors in the past.
Manager Antoni Grau wanted to speak at the end to highlight Juan Oliver’s loyalty throughout his career.
At the close of the tribute lunch, the Board presented Juan Oliver with a plaque reflecting his appointment as Honorary Member of the Club and a watch.
Nearly forty people, including managers and companions, attended the farewell, held on January 27 at the Schwaiger restaurant in Palma.
